Product Information

For the suppression of Docks and Nettles and control of most other grassland weeds. Hygrass will control the majority of perennial broad leaf weeds in grassland, but patches of well established stinging nettles and docks will require a second spray when any re- growth has sufficient leaves. Creeping Thistle, Dandelion, Sowthistle, horsetail, SoftmRush, Plantain, Daisy, and most annual weeds such as Chickweed and Mayweeds are well controlled. Speedwell, Ragworth and pineapple weeds are severely checked.

Rates of Application:

The recommended rate of application of HYGRASS for the overall spraying of grassland is 5 litres per hectare (3.6 pints per acre) in a minimum of 200 litres water per hectare (20 gallons per acre). The preferable time for spraying is during May and June, ideally spray 3-4 weeks before cutting silage or hay. Animals should NOT be allowed to graze the grassland for at least 14 days after spraying. If poisonous weeds such as Ragwort are present do not allow livestock into the field until the plants are dead. If poisonous weeds are present, DO NOT cut sprayed fields for silage until they have disappeared.

Mixing and Spraying:

Before use ensure that the spraying equipment has been thoroughly cleaned. Half fill the spray tank with clean water. With the contents of the spray tank under re-circulation, add the  measured quantities of HYGRASS EXTRA through the filter. Top up the tank with water to the required level and maintain recirculation until the tank is sprayed out. Apply the recommended quantity of HYGRASS EXTRA through a conventional hydraulic sprayer using a MEDIUM spray to cover the weed leaves evenly and thoroughly . After each day's use wash out with water and wetting agent. Wash out again with water, drain and allow to dry. Traces of herbicide left in the sprayer may damage susceptible crops if these aee subsequently sprayed using the same equipment. Avoid spray drift unto neighbouring crops and all broad leaved plants outside the target area.  Do not spray in windy weather. Beets, all brassicas including oilseed rape, lettuce, peas, potatoes, tomatoes, all fruit crops and ornamentals are particularly susceptible to 2, 4-D and may be damaged by spray drift.

Knapsack application:

This method is recommended for spot treatment of weeds and patches of Docks. Apply as a medium spray just before run off occurs.  Add 180ml of Hygrass Extra to a full 20 litre Knapsack.

Weather and growing conditions:

Apply to a dry crop when rain is not forecast for at least 12 hours. Optimum results are obtained when the weeds are actively growing under good soil and weather conditions. Reduced weed control may be obtained during drought or cold weather. If rain falls shortly after application the effect of HYGRASS EXTRA may be reduced.
