Homeland Multi-Purpose Compost with added John Innes has been specially developed to help plants at every life stage for a stronger, healthier life.

It is enriched with loam for nutrient & moisture retention and sand & grit for excellent drainage making it ideal for use all around the garden.

Instructions for use: First put on a pair of gloves and rework the compost between your hands, so it regains its intended texture.

Sowing Seeds

  • Fill seed tray evenly with compost, firm gently and water.
  • Sow seeds following seed pack instructions and cover tray with glass/polythene to prevent drying out.
  • Place in warm spot out of direct sunlight until seeds have germinated.
  • Remove glass/polythene and keep moist until seedlings are ready for pricking out.

NB – The open structure and nutrient content of this compost may not be suitable for small, fine and difficult to germinate seeds. We always recommend using a dedicated seed sowing compost.

Seedlings:

  • Fill pot with compost. Water and allow to drain. Make hole in compost.
  • Holding seedling gently by the leaves, transfer to the new pot. Press compost firmly around the seedling.
  • Water the plant regularly and feed after 4 weeks.
  • Place the pots in a warm well ventilated location.

Cuttings:

  • Cut & remove non flowering 10cm shoot. Trim to leave top two pairs of leaves. Dip in rooting gel.
  • Insert firmly into compost, water and place in poly bag, in warm spot away from direct sunlight.

Potting:

  • Thoroughly water the plant, gently tap the pot to remove, shake off loose compost.
  • Place plant in new pot with new compost, fill gaps with new compost, firm down and water

 Planting out:

  • Dig a hole approx. twice the depth and diameter of the root ball.
  • Place plant in hole with new compost, fill gaps with new compost, firm down and water.

 Health & Safety advice:

  • Use in a well ventilated place and avoid breathing in dust.
  • Always wear gloves when gardening and wash hands after use.
