Annual with small clove-scented leaves. Useful in tomato, cheese and vegetable dishes, salads and pizzas.

Growing Information

Sow under glass February-March, and outdoors April-May. Likes a dryish position, and develops more flavour and scent when grown in poorish soils.

Sowing Information

Sow thinly in a 9cm pot on a windowsill or trays in a greenhouse at approx 10-15°C (50-60°F) using quality compost. Cover seeds with 6mm (1?4") sieved compost. Germination 14-21 days. Grow on in pots and begin to use leaves when plants are approximately 15cm (6") tall. Sow every 3-4 weeks for succession. Alternatively grow on to plant or sow outside in containers/borders 23cm (9") apart.
