All Ireland Pollinator Plan at Aurivo Animal Feed Mill

This Summer, the team at Aurivo Animal Feed Mill with the help of Homeland Ballaghaerreen have been working closely on a very special project.

Anita McNicholas, Garden Centre Manager at Homeland Ballaghaderreen along with Linda Noone, Michèal Connolly and Orla O’Brien at Aurivo Animal Feed Mill,  were extremely excited to work together to cultivate a bee friendly haven for both Aurivo team members and pollinator friends to enjoy, all part of the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan.

Garden centre expert Anita was able to advise the Mill team on their design, and together they formulated a plan and got to work. Two 2 picnic benches were added to the space so all the staff at the Mill can enjoy their lunch al fresco, if they wish.

Anita selected a beautiful range of pollinator friend plant like buddleia, coreopsis and heathers to encourage butterflies. A selection of other native species were also set in this area and potted into containers.

With the help of Norman Finnerty, they created a safe haven for more wildlife by not mowing a section of their grassy area over the Summer months allowing ox daisy, red clover and more to flourish. This in in turn encourages a great number of additional pollinating insects into the area.

To finish this particular section of the project the team also added four bug hotels among the trees. We hope our guests have already had time to check in and enjoy the nearby pollinator plants!
