Top tips to prepare for winter housing

  1. Wash sheds - Ensure all sheds are cleaned out and properly power washed and disinfected prior to housing.
  2. Repairs - Examine all feed barriers, slats, gates, and cubicles etc and carry out any necessary repairs now.
  3. Lights - Check internal and external lights in all sheds/yards and replace blown bulbs with LED lights to increase visibility. Add extra lights to sheds that have poor visibility.
  4. Water troughs - clean out water troughs before bringing animals inside for winter. Check that they have refilled fully and are not leaking.
  5. Test silage - It is important to know the quantity and quality of silage available. Complete a fodder budget and test your silage now. Contact your local Farm Commercial Specialist to arrange a silage test.
